In Memoriam

David Ownbey
David Lloyd Ownbey
March 16, 1955 - September 1, 2015

David was born in Moscow, Idaho on March 16, 1955. He graduated from Potlatch High School (Idaho) in 1973. David was married to Patricia (Jones) Ownbey on Nov. 23, 1980. David and Patty were married almost 35 years. Most of his working career was at GTE (General Telephone and Electric) as a telephone service technician and technical supervisor.

David was an active club member whose enthusiasm for tokens was infectious and knowledge awe-inspiring. David helped found our club and served as president for a number of years. David attended virtually all club meetings, always had a smile, and a selection of tokens to show, barter, trade or sell. Detailed information on his pieces and related stories were always free. David was also a constant after the meeting at the pub having a beer with us.

David ran three or four coin shows a year - a staple in the Portland area (held at the Denny's in Clackamas). David was good friends with Jim Mabry. Jim worked the admissions desk at David's shows until Jim passed away in 2011. Patty, his widow, took over running the shows after David suffered his fatal heart attack and passed away suddenly. This included a show already scheduled for September 13, 2015, less than two weeks after David passed. With buyers and sellers attending from all over the U.S., we all know that David would have himself said that "the show must go on." David is missed, he leaves behind more than a few token collectors he created with his infectious love of the hobby.
